Plan

Hypothesis. Any positive uncontrolled inventory-population correlation (Hay & Bauer 2007) will substantially shrink toward null once genealogical family and macroarea non-independence are controlled (per Moran, McCloy & Wright 2012).

Join PHOIBLE 2.0 inventories (segment/consonant/vowel counts per doculect) to Glottolog (family, macroarea, coords) on Glottocode, and to open speaker-population (Wikidata P1098 via ISO-639-3/Glottocode). Compute uncontrolled Pearson/Spearman of inventory size vs log(population) [total & C/V]; then controlled linear mixed model size ~ log_pop + (1|family) + (1|macroarea). Robustness across >=2 doculect-selection rules (max-source vs mean across doculects). Report whether the association survives controls with sign/effect-size/CI.
